Open Mic is a great place to try out new material, meet other writers, become a part of the songwriting community, and practice your performing skills. We recommend that all new writers play Open Mic here at The Bluebird, as well as at the many other writers clubs in Nashville, on a regular basis. Open Mic Sign up is Monday night at 5:30pm. You must be signed up by 5:45pm. Names are drawn and the line-up is announced at 6:00pm. The show runs 6-9:00pm. Writers get the chance to play two of their own original songs, solo, or accompanied by no more than two others on stage. Drums and backing tracks are not allowed. Call 615.383.1461 for more info.
  • McGuinness Girls Songwriters Night Dan McGuinness, 1538 Demonbreun Street, Nashville, TN 37203 McGuinness Girls Night is a girls singer songwriter night every Monday night at Dan McGuinness Irish Pub on Music Row. Terri Jo Box hosts and books the show and has since it started in May of 2004. It's one of the few" hoppin spots" to be on a Monday night in Nashville. You might hear some Bluegrass, Country, Rock, Pop, Folk and even some Latin music from time to time. On top of providing great entertainment, the event has been used as an outlet to raise money for some worthy causes such as Breast Cancer, Hurricane relief, house fires victims and families in need.   • Brighton Beach Memoirs The Larry Keeton Theatre Set in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, New York in 1937, this coming-of-age comedy focuses on Eugene Morris Jerome, a Polish-Jewish American teenager who experiences puberty, sexual awakening, and a search for identity as he tries to deal with his family, including his older brother Stanley, his parents Kate and Jack, and Kate's sister Blanche and her two daughters, Nora and Laurie, who come to live there after their father's death. Directed by Johnny Peppers.

Mussorgsky - Introduction to “Khovantchina” (Dawn on the Moscow River) Prokofiev - Concerto for Violin No. 2 in G minor, Op. 63 Shostakovich - Symphony No. 7 in C major, Op. 60 "Leningrad" Shostakovich’s powerful Seventh Symphony was written as a response to the Nazi siege of Leningrad, though it’s also believed that it may have been a veiled critique of Stalin’s authoritarian regime. This all-Russian program also features Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto, a warmly lyrical piece full of virtuoso passages for soloist Cho-Liang Lin. Mussorgsky’s Introduction to Khovantchina captures the feeling of gently breaking daylight through a series of variations on a Russian folk tune.

  • Jason Blume Songwriters Workshop BMI Offices BMI remains dedicated to educating the creative community through its popular Songwriters’ Workshop Series in Nashville, under the continued tutelage of hit songwriter and best-selling author Jason Blume. This month’s topic is “Hit Lyric Analysis (Song Critique).” Participants will have an opportunity to pitch one song to a publisher. Those who wish to pitch a song should bring a recording and a lyric sheet—or be prepared to perform the song live. Registration is conducted online. Online registration opens after the previous month’s workshop, at which time you can register on this page. 50 participants will be admitted online on a first-come, first-served basis, until all 50 seats are filled. *If online registration is full, you can sign up on the waiting list the day of the workshop at 9am in the BMI lobby. *All participants MUST check in by 12:20pm or your spot will be given away to those on the waiting list. Registration begins February 22, 2012 @ 3:00 pm (CST).

It’s also the perfect vehicle for this charismatic pianist’s jaw-dropping technique and vivacious showmanship. Franck’s D minor Symphony is possibly the greatest symphonic work by a French composer, with an unusually deep, rich sonority that evokes the sound of an organ.
